Isn’t gravure expensive? Answer:
No. Narrow web gravure cylinders often equal or beat the cost of process plates for other print processes. Pre-press may also be less as gravure cylinders are produced directly from digital input. Additionally, less print units are required since line and process may be printed in the same station. Gravure cylinders are re-usable. Set up is faster with less web waste. High, constant quality can be produced at top speeds.

How long does it take to set up a job? Answer:
The cartridge style print units on Chesnut Presses may be interchanged in less than a minute. Our Pre-Press Make-Ready System allows all print units to be put in register without moving or wasting web.

What are some benefits of gravure, unavailable with other methods? Answer:
Due to the precise ability of the gravure cell to lay down a specific amount of ink, gravure is able to print the widest variety of inks, UV, water based, solvent, metallics, flourescents - from the lightest continuous vignette to heavy laydowns resembling screen printing.
